The film program on the Philippines, occasioned by the country’s presence as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair, presents a suite of works from National Artist Kidlat Tahimik and Nick Deocampo. Their practice has been shaped by reflections on culture, society, and society—rendered complex and urgent by the cinematic language they have honed and transformed over time. Their work has also come in contact with German history and exchanges built around film, testifying to the strong relationship between the Philippines and Germany both in the social world of cinema.
To be exhibited alongside their films are the works of National Artist Lino Brocka and the film adaptation of the novel of Lualhati Bautisa Dekada ’70 by Chito Roño.
