About
Literature may speak about fictions but it always speaks with its own reality. It may be an invention but it mostly involves a dialogue with the present. Literature is constantly thinking of reality, commenting on it, reflecting it in some way. That is why literature, and culture in general, becomes the preferred object of politics when politics does not want to have this kind of testimony of its own deeds. When official politics does not approve of this dialogue which might be critical, reality must be openly resisted. It is an act of an activity –literature– that not necessarily wants to, but sometimes has to, resist politically. This is the time for Argentinian writers to do this: to speak out. And that is why we are here today.
