About

All foundational literature is subject to questions about the social and cultural structures of the nations in which it emerges. Gabriel García Márquez, of course, is no exception, and one could even say there has been an overemphasis on exploring the foundations of Colombian nationality in his work. However, the focus on deciphering the nation has overlooked the connection of his work to global dynamics. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death and the upcoming celebration of the centennial of his birth, we propose a discussion on the legacy of Gabriel García Márquez in analyzing the drama, inequalities, and negotiations within the framework of Global South dialogues.

Speakers:

Pilar Reyes (Penguin Random House Spain)

Antonio Ungar (Colombian writer)

Moderator:

Hernán D. Caro (PhD in Philosophy from Humboldt University of Berlin)
