About

Finnish comics authors Terhi Ekebom, Eeva Meltio, and Jyrki Nissinen read and present the new anthology Tihku and their other recent work.

Visions of Nordic introspectiveness, occult pocket watches, suburban  drifting, untamed forests and butterfly appreciation all come together  in a sticky weave of cutting-edge Finnish comics storytelling. Tihku is a joint work by 12 artists and the first  part in a series. Featured artists: Terhi Adler, Terhi Ekebom, Esko Heikkilä,  Jyrki Heikkinen, Ivanda Jansone, Joonas Järvi, Tiina Lehikoinen,  Hanneriina Moisseinen, Lauri Mäkimurto, Jyrki Nissinen, Kati Rapia, and Katja Ronkanen.

Eeva Meltio's new graphic novel "Hiekka" (Sand) tells the story of a young Olive girl growing up in the American Midwest, on a plain plagued by dust storms and drought. The story takes place in the 1930s, during the so-called Dust Bowl era, when a drought lasting almost 10 years turned the windy plains of the Midwest into a sandy wasteland.

Like many others of her time, Olive ends up in the oil fields but she dreams of something completely different: she has decided to bring back the rains and thereby find a way back home. A joint journey with an old rainmaker across the plain makes her face painful memories, but also find a piece of herself.
