About

Melanie Lehnert-Bechle, Senior Director Open Research EMEA & Americas, at Wiley will host a panel discussion starring early career researchers where the conversation explores the evolving world of open access publishing, specifically through the lens of the next generation of researchers.

On stage:
Fiona Brown, DKFZ Heidelberg
Schirin Hanf, KIT Karlsruhe
Lutz Nuhn, University of Wuerzburg
Giulio Ragazzon, University of Strasbourg

This session will cover key topics including the benefits of open access for enhancing research visibility/discovery, selecting reputable journals while balancing the difficulty of getting into the most prestigious journals, and managing publication fees and funding issues.

We ask big questions such as: are early career researchers properly equipped with essential skills for getting published? Are transitional agreements helping to address issues of inequitable access or reinforcing them? Is generational consumer behaviors (i.e. wanting to align with a company) finding its way into where this cohort are choosing to publish? Do they trust publishers?

This next generation of researchers are shaping the future of open access and therefore science more broadly. This panel presents an opportunity for the audience to better understand the current and desired landscape of open access among an underrepresented and important group of researchers.
