About
Three German translators discuss what they consider thrilling in literature from Baltics.
A very honest answers from Bettina Bergmann, Maximilian Murmann and Claudia Sinnig
These three German translations have something in common. They all have chosen to translate literature from one of the Baltic languages. For someone, this path was accidental, for someone – inevitable. In the discussion they will explain what do they find so thrilling in Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian literature, that they have dedicated their professional life to make these books available to German readers. Last book for Bettina Bergmann was Latvian documentary-crime novel from 1990-ties "December" by Jānis Joņevs, for Maximilian Murmann it was Estonian real life story "The 11 Escapes of Madis Jefferson" by Tauno Vahter, and for Claudia Sinning – Lithuanian classical masterpeace "Vilnius Poker" by Ričardas Gavelis" All three books are published in Germany in 2024.
