Film: OLIVER / REVOLUTIONS HAPPEN LIKE REFRAINS IN A SONG (Philippinen 1983/1987. R: Nick Deocampo)
About
Nick Deocampo (born 1959) made himself a name primarily through his books and essays on Philippine cinema, but also as a festival organizer. He has directed a series of documentary films in which he reflects on his own situation as a homosexual. OLIVER is a film about the actor Reynaldo Villarama, who performs as a drag artist in gay bars; his performance as Spiderman is particularly spectacular. Villarama also features prominently in REVOLUTIONS HAPPEN LIKE REFRAINS IN A SONG. The film deals primarily with the uprising against the Marcos regime, but also links this theme to the situation of marginalized groups, especially homosexuals, in Philippine society.
