The vision of the book is two-fold: first, it catalogues the different creatures of Philippine lower mythology into names, traits, and functions, deploying the framework of Wayland D. Hand. The taxonomy yields 12 types, such as demons, dragons, dwarves, elves, viscera suckers, witches, vampires, etc. The second objective is to examine the broader implications of the beliefs of lower mythological creatures, particularly in relation to teaching and the school setup, especially in basic education.
More crucially, this pioneering scholarly work yields a glimpse into the distinct Philippine culture, tradition, customs, and values, which to this day, very much permeate into the way of life of the common folks.
