Siren is an award-winning independent publisher solely devoted to works of contemporary and modern literature in translation. Based in İstanbul, Türkiye and founded by two partners in 2007, Siren was first established as a platform to gather contemporary voices of literature expressing moods, concerns and situations that are reflective of our zeitgeist. Siren’s first publication was American author Pagan Kennedy’s Confessions of a Memory Eater to further stress its foundational drive towards understanding and examining the present cultural moment. Over time, Siren’s list of contemporary fiction became more inclusive in terms of the languages the translations were made from and it grew to include modern works of fiction which may be considered as substructures of literary production today. Elaborate editorial attention, a keen eye for detail during book preparation processes and the strive for impeccable quality in the translated text have become emblematic for Siren which was named Publisher of the Year by Dünya Kitap 2017.
Publishing 8-12 new titles a year, Siren has an almost boutique approach to publishing and low expectancies in returns with special and specific sales strategies for each title published.
Siren’s most popular authors include Vigdis Hjorth, Etgar Keret, Colson Whitehead and Valeria Luiselli.
